PC Matic FAQs

Questions from PC Matic customers – recently answered by The PC Matic Support Team.

Q:I use programs like OBS (Open Brodcaster) to live stream to Twitch.tv and ever since I bought PC Matic I can not use the software and I dont see anything I can click to say dont block this or this. I definitely need help.

A:You can click on the green shield icon in the lower right corner of the Windows desktop screen by the time display and pause the protection for ten minutes, one hour, or leave it off until the next reboot, or you can set the Protection Level to Industry Standard (Blacklist only) to turn off Super Shield and just leave the Real Time protection running, or you can select SuperShield Protection, then set the Blocking Notification Method to Prompt for Override (Advanced), open the program in question again, and when the SuperShield blocking screen appears, add the programs to your local white list by clicking on the red “Always Allow” button, provided that you know for sure that these are legitimate programs, or add them to the local black list by clicking on the green “Always Block” button to avoid seeing the warning screen for that specific executable.

Q: Does PC Matic turn Windows Defender off? | Can I run Win Defender and PC Matic simultaneously?

A: No, PC Matic does not turn off Windows Defender. Depending on which version of Windows you are running, Windows itself may disable Windows Defender if a Microsoft-certified antivirus product such as SuperShield is detected.

While there is no conflict between PC Matic and Windows Defender, activating the SuperShield real time antivirus is another matter. Our recommendation is to not run two real time agents at the same time as that can cause conflicts, slowdowns, etc.

Q: Why is my PCmatic supershield icon in task bar red?

A: Left click once on the red shield, launch PC Matic, left click on Super Shield. At the bottom of the page, left click the green shield labeled “protected”, click “disable” then click “enable”. The Super Shield should show green in the tray now.

If you hover the mouse cursor over the red shield it should display a message as to why it is red.

Q: Why is the PC Matic scan running slow?

A: Open PC Matic and click on Options>Scan Options and verify that the Quick/Full Malware Scan option is set to Quick. Quick will find 96+% of the malware on the computer. A full scan will scan every file on the computer and can literally take hours. Full scans do not need to be run every time.

  1. My desktop has been running very slow for a month or so. It did this before & I ran deep scan and it corrected it but will not improve anything now. Any help?

    1. @Johnny Faulk:

First try resetting your browser to defaults and manually uninstall any and all tool bars in Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs). There are instructions at the link below to help with resetting the browser:

If the issue is not resolved, please try running PC Matic from Safe Mode with Networking. The reason for running in Safe Mode is that the items PC Matic wants to remove will not be active and able to resist removal.

Open PC Matic and click on the Options gear, then under the Scan Settings, make sure that the malware scan type is set to “Full” and that Fix Malware is set to “On”.

To access Safe Mode with Networking repeatedly tap the F5 or F8 key while the computer is booting up. Once the menu opens, select Safe Mode with Networking, and if prompted, administrator. The screen will look different because the video driver is not loaded. That will return to normal after a reboot. To run PC Matic, you may need to go to Start>Programs>PC Pitstop>PC Matic if the desktop icons are not present.

If the computer connects to the Internet using a wireless connection, it may be necessary to connect the computer using an Ethernet cable in order to have Internet access from Safe Mode with Networking.

If running from Safe Mode with Networking does not resolve the issue, the next step is to do a malware scan using the free versions from Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Sophos, and AdwCleaner:

If the infection is still there, boot the computer into Safe Mode again and from there do a Windows System Restore back to a date prior to the infections, then once System Restore completes, repeat the malware scans.

To access Windows System Restore go to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and select a restore date from before the computer was infected.

To reinstall PC Matic or install the program on an additional computer, download and install the program by clicking the link below:

Once the program is installed, launch the application, and login to run the scan. For PC Matic, you only need to login with the same email address , and password as was previously used for the original installation. Do not click on the ‘Register’ or ‘Edit’ option or otherwise try to use the license key again. If you need a password lookup, you can do that from here: http://greenarrow.pcpitstopmail.com/click.php/e11478/t181739/?

I have a paid up contract with PC Matic but my computer is not being scanned.
Any suggestions before I give up and cancel my subscription?

    1. @Darrel J. Ankeny:

Have you set up a scheduled scan after completing a manual scan. Do not use Sleep Mode, Hibernate, and be sure the computer is on and you are logged into Windows during the time of the scan.

After running at least one manual scan and clean, to access the PC Matic scheduler, from the My PC’s screen, click on the link under or by ‘Next Test’ to the right of the computer name that you want to schedule. If this is the first time, it will read as ‘None Scheduled’. You can also run a scan and clean and there is an option in the upper right corner to set a schedule from the screen with the summary of fixes.

Please make sure that you logged in to PC Matic on the computers when it is time for the scheduled scan to run. The program does not need to be open, but you do need to just close PC Matic rather than log out. If you are logged out from PC Matic the scheduled scan cannot run.

If the scan does not start or complete, PC Matic will send an email saying it was missed.

    1. @Gary Beck:

To the right of the computer name on the first screen of PC Matic is an option to remove any
computer that has not been optimized within the last 60 days. Computers that have been on the
license more than 90 days can be removed without having to wait 60 days from the last scan and clean. Just click on the “X”.
