Maintaining Cyber Security While Traveling This Summer

Cyber Security Shouldn’t Take a Backseat for Summer Travel

While traveling this summer, it is entirely likely users will find themselves in need of a WiFi connection.  Often times, users will connect to a public WiFi connection to conduct whatever business they need to accomplish.  This may include online banking, checking work emails, researching a topic, or even updating their social media accounts.

All of which, should not be done through public WiFi.  These connections are not secure and often used by hackers to infiltrate devices.  In addition, if users are not using the Bluetooth on their mobile devices, it is best to shut it off.  This is yet another way cyber criminals have infected devices.

In order to avoid these cyber attacks, users are encouraged to only use private, and secure connections.  This may be through a hot-spot offered through their wireless provider, or only using cellular data.

But is this always possible?  No.  There will be times where the user does not have enough data to check their emails, or users will still connect to WiFi without thinking of the risks.  To keep your device and information as secure as possible, it is important users update their devices with the most recent software updates.  They’re also encouraged to keep all third-party applications updated.  In addition, enabling a security solution on all devices is critical.
