Thunderbird, developed by the Mozilla Foundation, is a free, open source, corss-platform email and news client.
Thunderbird was first released in late 2004. It’s development was modeled after popular Mozilla Firefox web browser. The Thunderbird project’s aim was to be a simple e-mail, newsgroup and news feed client. Thunderbird’s email client functionality provides users with an alternative to other email clints such as Microsoft’s Outlook or Outlook Express. Although the basic version of Thunderbird is not a personal information manager (PIM) , additional extensions to the basic program have been developed to provide additional PIM functionalities.
