Here’s hoping you didn’t update your AVG software in a timely manner. It seems the update will turn your system into a looping machine. Nothing is more fun than a Merry-Go-Round on a Monday Morning. Enjoy the ride!

I recently wrote about how social engineering and human nature is used to trick us into downloading files which infiltrate our computers. When I signed on to Facebook today the first thing I noticed was an obviously malware post.

I joined FaceBook roughly about 1 year ago, and I have truly enjoyed the experience. I have connected with many old friends and relatives. Without FaceBook none of this would be possible, and hence my life is a little richer. But and this is a big but, Facebook is evolving into a dangerous place.
Let me give an actual example of how one can be tricked into downloading badware when on Facebook. First, I would like to introduce an old friend of mine, Duffy Conway. Duffy worked at Gateway in sales, and was consistently one of the company’s top producers. I left Gateway over 10 years ago, and I was delighted to have Duffy as my friend on Facebook.

KENTUCKY FRIED FINGERS…. They’re Chicken Licking Good!
We all know a good video is hard to resist. Whether it’s the VMA awards or just goofey fun stuff, we seem to have a huge appetite for short clips. Check inside for some good “finger eating” videos.

Strangled by trojans, each week I see systems brought to a standstill. Sometimes it’s a neighbor and sometimes it’s a friend, but the story is always the same. “A popup said I was infected so I tried to remeove it. Now I can’t download anything. The program said it would help, but it didn’t.” They look real, mimicking Microsoft or well known AntiVirus products. The names sound ligitimate, calling themselves AntiVirus 2009 and such.

This is the Ultimate version and is due to “expire on June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010“. I’m still unsure how the bi-hourly shutdown works, but whether twice hourly or once every two hours, I’m sure it will be irritating enough to push those of us using the OS to buy or drop back. As much as I’ve enjoyed the Windows 7 betas, I’m sure I’ll be buying and moving up.

What is it like to be a Gator user? We get plenty of reports in our forums, but we decided to get first-hand information by installing GAIN software on our own systems. We also wanted to find out if there are any good things about GAIN ads–do they have the potential to help users find great deals on products and services? The results weren’t pretty. Rob’s system became very unstable almost immediately. Dave didn’t have system instability, but received many GAIN ads that were anything but targeted.
